Morning all,
Here's the wish list for the new tank.
The tank is a 48" by 18" by 20". I've ordered it from poshfish.com, they build tank and cabinet units complete and if you stick to a standard pattern then they do really good deals. This one's costing £250.00 Stirling, which I think is $750 AUS.
D-Deltec launched the Dusk till Dawn early this year. It holds four T5 tubes each with in built microchips that give gradual lighting, simulate passing clouds and vary the amount of light as per the calendar month. Very cool, but they're going to set me back another £200.00.
I'm using two TF2 filters for the tank body so I can clean them out monthly with a two-week overlap. TF2 have built in heater and very easy to clean filter units, that clip over the front of the heater/pump unit. Ideal for prepping water as you can use the heater/pump to heat the water and aerate it. These are only £30 each that is great value for money.
For the rainmaker I'm using a mini-mouse pump that'll take 300l per hour from the sump and push it through a pair of spray bars at either end of the tank. An overflow pipe will take any excess water back down to the sump. I'll be setting on the rain maker once a week to complete the water change then seal off the sump and siphon out the mess.
I'm using ferrolit gravel, which has iron tablets and all the other goodness plants need and plan to have plenty of greenery around. The idea is to plant the tank to have a semicircle of clear space covered in sand. The plants will be concentrated to the rear of the tank, building up to the back corners. Having a clear ground for feeding means that you get to see a lot more of your fish, and it's easier to clean.
Finally for shade, which BGK's are fairly fond of, I’ve got a bag of natural slate to build caves and use for decor. With the dawn and dusk phases of the T5's this should all work really well.
I'm actually moving to Leeds at the end of Sept so the tank should be blooming just before Christmas, provided the missus doesn't want anything extraneous for the new house.
Here's hoping! Let me know what you guys think, or if you have any pieces of kit you can reccomend.
Cheers, Carraig
