Trying to sort out the right combination of tank mates for my BGK's in my new tank, also to get the fish biomass right...
250 l (planted, UGF plus external water filter; 26/7 degrees C)
Moving across
3 x platys 1 x bgk 2 x small catfish
Adding
3 x male guppies 1 x small bgk
Which of these are suitable to add to the tank?
2 x Sunset Swordtail (M+F) 2 x Dwarf Guarami / Pearl Guarami (M+F) 2 x Bristlenose Catfish / Suckermouth catfish (do sexes matter) Clown Loaches Couple more Platy's (to try build up a breeding school)
Other suggestions for good community fish? And what is the best order to add the fish in? I gather one species a week...
I accept that the knifefish will outgrow the 'new' tank in the next year or two, and hence tank upgrade will be required!

mish, From experience gourami's, b/n's and clown loaches go well. Especially a good sized school of loaches. Other pleco's like sailfin's, gold spot etc. also do well but will outgrow the tank but b/n's are very good and sexes do not matter. Be aware that if the b/n's breed the loaches have a tendency to knock the eggs off. Adequate feeding may be the key as I'd reckon the BGK would get into the fry of any breeding fish if given a chance or an opportunity as well as the loaches. I've never done what you are considering so can't say from experience, just my own thoughts. Unless someone else could offer some insight into this it may be a case of try and see. Hope this helps. Cheers, Bryce.
