Hi there all. Just found this forum and found it a very interesting site. Anyhow ive read lots on suitable companions to BGKs but ive never heard if other knife fish are eg clowns or black knifes. Ive just got a wee baby ghost knife "Stevie" whos about 4in in a tank with 2 clown knifes 4-5in. Things are all peaceful at the moment and stevie is left all alone. Was just wondering if anyone else has tried this mix of fish and if they survived?

Hi Mallit
I have not personally tried the combination, but judging by what other people have written on this site and Aquahobby.com, Clown's and BGK's should be fine together. However, it (always) boils down to the individual temperments, tank size, and number of caves or places for them to have as terrories.
I had seriously considered adding 2 clown's to my community tank (they are such fun!) but then discovered that like BGK's they grow huge, and the logistics of housing 2 50cm BGK's in a few years time was concern enough without adding another large tank mates.
But thrilled you have gone for it! Please keep us posted as to how things go... photo's! Have fun!

i keep asians which after the famed abaaba are the most aggressive knifes w/ a clown and they are fine. However 2 clowns will probably not get on that well once they get past 7". they are shoal fish as juvies but loaners as adults. if you want more than one it is best to keep 4+ but obviously that would need a BIG tank
