I currently keep my 12" BGK in a fairly peaceful 90 gal tank, with angel fish, a blood parrot, a juvie blue jack dempsey, a 10" common pleco, 3 clown loaches and a few cories. I'm contemplating switching some tanks around, but the only tank I could reasonably re-home the knife to is my 125 cichlid tank.
Inhabitatants: 1 9" Black Belt (bossy but not lethal), a breeding pair of Nicaraguan Cichlids, an 18" gibiceps pleco, a 2" juvie green terror (who may be fully grown by the time I do this) around 30 or so various cories and a small school of unknown tetras.
At the very least, would I be overcrowded if I moved the knife in? I'm thinking I would be, and the compatibility issue is a mute point. What do ya'll think?
As for every one getting along, the black belt only seems irritated by fish of a similar size as her. Thus, all other fish are much smaller, and things are quite peaceful in the tank as a rule. I've no idea what she'd think of the knife, and also have no idea if he could defend himself if the BB got rough. She chases and liplocks, I've never known her to cause any harm besides severe stress.
I could try this before completely re-arranging all tanks to see if it works, but I'm worried about causing anyone any harm - I love my knife! Also enjoy having a mating pair in the 125 - I don't want that to stop because of the knife vying for the couple's cave.
Most of the other fish in the 90 will be moving to a 55 gal, I think that would be a bit small for the knife as it's only 13" wide. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
