Hi Steveo,
The dusk till dawn looks awsome doesn't it? Have you thought of dimming an area of the tank so it isn't too bright. I do lighting with an amateur theatre company so I got some blue gel they use to colour the lights and cut a piece and put it under the light at one end of my tank for a while. That gave the corner a much dimmer appearance. Not sure whether Ebony appreciated it as she doesn't seem to mind the full light anyway. Just a thought to maybe encourage Ivory to come out with the lights still on.
Update on Ebony's tank mates - You know how I said I hadn't lost any neons lately? Well last night whilst I was feeding Ebony, I noticed she had a very bulging belly, which couldn't be accounted for from what I was feeding her. I counted neons and all there but I noticed I'm down 1 harlequin. Oh well - the price we pay. I'm about to restock with neons, harlequins and rummy noses. Let's see how long they last.
Cheers, DebbieK.

Hi Steveo
Don't know much about BGK's susceptibility to Ich as I've never had to deal with it. All I've had to worry about is the occasional fungal infection. I've used melafix and pimafix from aquarium pharmaceuticals for bacterial issues with no adverse reaction from my BGK. I quickly checked AP's website and they have super ich but suggest to use half dose if there are scaleless fish in the tank. I haven't used this so can't speak from experience.
I've added a few new tank mates last night. 4 neon tetras (making a total of 7 now), 3 rummy-noses and 2 SAE's. This morning I could only find the 2 SAE's, 4 of the neons and none of the rummy noses. I'm not too worried at the moment as I know the neons hide. I'm hoping the rummy-noses do too.
Glad to hear Ivory has new friends.
That’s all for now Cheers, DebbieK

hey debbie I am gona try the pimafix in and hope for the best... debbie did you full dose the pima and mell? I saw one white spot on the ivorys tail fin but see nothing else.. im gona put it in though just incase.. adding all the tank budys at once was a really bad idea.. really bad... the nitrite went through the roof i just did a 50% water change and prob gotta do it again tomorrow or the next day... i took bout everything out. the platy and barbs are in a 10 gal and the gourami and clowns are still in the 10 gal hospital and the bgk and the two plecos got the 55.. i saw my bgk out last night and turned on the light to see if i could see ich. instead i notice my bgk almost like light was going through him he was like a pale silver except the end of his tail.. i read up and it said it could be from pure water quality and or stress so i am quikly trying to controll the situation.. my fish world is falling apart as we know it.. as i did the water change i noticed some platy fry so i got about 5 of them in a 1 gal i never raised fry i guess ill see what its like.. BUt my main consern is ich on the bgk and everyt thing tells you to half dose for scaleless but being the mela and pimafix are natural do you half dose?

Hey Steveo,
I've used both melafix and pimafix at full strength and the ghost had no problems. I'm not quite sure if they will fix ich though - check with someone.
I saw your post re getting the light. I was after a filter Craig mentioned in his set up and I couldn't find it anywhere in Aus. but I contacted the Company's service centre by e-mail and asked who their Aus distributor was and found it locally that way - you might wan't to give that a try.
I've also decided that Neon's are pretty feeder fish as far as Ebony is concerned. I'm down to 2 and I never saw the rummy noses after that first day. Oh well!!
Cheers for now, DebbieK

Hi Steveo, Have you read the the post by Logan175 in the Hospital section? He runs through the process he used to get rid of his problem. Thanks for your sympathy for the tetras . I can't wait to get my 4' tank (yes still waiting on that) so I can add lots more plants for smaller fish to hide. Yes I know ever the eternal optimist, but I love watching the tetras schooling, especially when Ebony is hanging out in the back of the tank - against the black backdrop! That's likely to have to wait until after christmas as I'll be on holidays then. Oh well I've waited this long, what's another couple of months! As for pictures, I've some short video footage of Ebony when I first got her, but haven't been able to pull a still from it nor have I worked out how to post it on the site. I'd better look into that. I'd love to show her off ;D. Cheers for now, DebbieK

Hey debbie.
yea i just read it wow he cured it from a really bad stage thats really good that gives me so much more hope for my platy and clownloaches my bgk i dont even know if he has anything or not im just being very very precausious so it doesnt brake out.. especially since every other fish that was in that tank had ich.... unfortunately ivory has lost lots of color but i will be fixing that with a 2/3 water cahnge the nitrite should drop pretty low after that i just found a couple more platy fry they hide to much to be food for ivory so i guess i jsut gotta let them grow i dont want them to take over my tanks though cause they reproduce like crazy.. so your gona get a 4'? i have the 4' 55 gal and i seen a 4' 75 gal wich one you getting... i think i decided that i wont get the dusk til dawn til i get my 120 gal.. hmm well sounds to me like you need other schooling fish if the tetra and rummy nose last a hole week... i guess u could always just restock every week... but that might get costly....

Hi Steveo,
I've thought about restocking regularly and I may end up doing that, though I think I'll take a break till after Christmas. Hopefully if I get a lot of fine leafed plants that small fish can hide in and make sure Ebony is Well fed (no mean feat) maybe things'll be ok. I'm also thinking of getting some platies or guppies or something that breeds easily and see if that might save some of tetras I love - hopefully Ebony will go for the fry and leave the tetras alone. That's for the future though. Otherwise everything's the same old, same old here. I still have 2 neon tetras, that's a bonus. Cheers, DebbieK.

Hi Steveo,
Glad to hear Ivory is happy. Nothing much has changed in my tank except I'm down 1 neon - surprise surprise!! 1 more to go.
I guess everyone else is happy. Just did weekly maintenance yesterday, so everything is fine.
Hope to have pictures soon.
Cheers, DebbieK
(BTW - are you getting weird stuff happening. All these fishgeeks.com references in the background?)

(and yea i do get that stupid backround how anoying is that)

Hi Steveo,
It's amazing how fast they grow isn't it. Ebony also doubled her size from 7cm to 14 cm in around 3 months. I hope this slows down a bit, I'm running out of ideas of how to keep her full and away from my neons. (it's not that bad really). She enjoys hanging around the back of the tank amongst the plants, or hiding in the "cave" in the back of my driftwood. She comes out every so often to have a look around then back into hiding she goes.
You know there really should be a "chat" area on this site shouldn't there?
Cheers for now DebbieK.
Good to "see" you again FMZ. You've been quiet lately. How's everything going?

Hey debbie,, I agree there should be a "chat" i dont even nkow if any of the administration people even come to this site anymore though.. its really a shame. well not much new in my tanks beside all my clownloaches are dead along with both plecos but ivory is in good health and being good there has been a baby platy in the 55 with him for about a month now and he still hasnt eaten it because i see it surface every now and then when its feedign time and it just goes after the scraps... ivory has battled off the few spots of ich he had and now im just waiting for a cople weeks to go by with no ich and im goin to get more pleco.. i cant wait maybe in the futrue more clown loaches .. i jsut got a couple nice paychecks so we'll see what happens with that.. i dont know why some people say bgk's are hard to keep because mine is one of the strongest fish when it come down to it.. he can take the copper safe with i put little more then half dose and raised the temp to 86 and he still has no problem goin by the heater and hangin out... and he loves bullying the other fish now its just gourami but if there near the entrance he will leave his cave to chase them half way across the tank then fly back to the cave.. then when he comes out at nice hes a little nicer to them but if the get to close he will dive at them.. when i feed him i will just put a half a block of blood worms in his log with out thawing it and he willl scan it then when its near the middle section of his body he will turn his head grab the clump and put it infront of himthen he grabs it with his mouth and shakes it like a dog. its funny to watch once all the worms are scattered aboutst his log he will reach down for a mouth full til thehy are all gone.. i love watching it... it took him a week to start eating i was afraid he would die of starvasion but i guess he gave in to hunger and eats very well since.. actualyl i thing hes kinda go a little bit of a gut.. .
